This set of photos were all in an envelope which has written on it ‘Old photographs Lossiemouth and Elgin’.
They were brought to Australia by Agnes, Matilda or Alexander Proctor. Some may be quite early pictures 1860s-1870s.
It is difficult to know who they were but I will make some suggestions to who they could be based on who might be of significance to the three Proctor siblings, the era of the photo from the content, and the active years of the photographer.
Alexander Proctor in Paysandu, Uruguay shortly before returning to Scotland about 1872Very faded photo of a boy on a donkey, probably Alexander ProctorThis appears, both by the clothing and the style of the card to be the oldest of the photographs. My current guess is that it is may be Elspet Murray 1801-1882. Elspet was Alexander Proctor’s (1831-1888) mother and this appears to be consistent with a photograph from the early 1860s. Perhaps a photo of his mother that he took to Uruguay. This is another quite early photograph, probably 1860s. I believe it may be one of Alexander Proctor’s (1831-1888) sisters and her children. One of his sisters was Agnes Dunbar Proctor b1833. This would make her about 33 in 1866 at which time she had four living children – Mary b1856, Margaret b1860, Agnes b1863 and James b1865.Perhaps one of the children in the previous setSame person as the previous photo or a sister?Unknown but perhaps another sister of the previous photoIs this the mother or one of the daughters?Look like brothers… Possibly the son’s of Alexander Proctor’s (1831-1888) brother William Proctor (1836-1889).looks similar to the boys in the previous photo. There were four sons of William Proctor (1836-1889) so this could be one who wasn’t in the above.Taken in Bradford… Another of Alexander Proctor’s sisters????Somebody’s baby…Unknown sisters
