Illawarra

The Illawarra region must have seemed like paradise to early visitors. Lush with vegetation, abundant valuable cedar trees and alluvial soil it was truly the ‘Garden of New South Wales‘ as Arthur Cousins described it in the title to his 1948 history of the region. Many histories of the Illawarra region have been published but the primary aim of this section of the website is to bring alive some of the stories of the people who lived in the region. Some of the content is also statistical but the aim is to develop the stories of the people named in various lists that will be published here. To explore every person who is named in lists included here is beyond the scope of one individual so I welcome contributions to give stories to the names. Please contact me via the contact form.
